Explore the Morehead family, while also gaining knowledge on the art of nineteenth-century North Carolina!
William Garl Browne Jr. was a nineteenth century portrait artist who exhibited in the National Academy in 1840, and earned national fame through a collection of portraits of General Zachary Taylor in 1847. This presentation will focus on Browne, who painted hundreds of portraits including members of the Morehead family.
Recognition of the 1781 Guilford Courthouse battle site was initiated in 1886, and resulted in the formation of the Guilford Battle Ground Company (est. 1887) that would protect and commemorate the grounds with monuments and memorials.
