Decorative Arts Tour of Blandwood
March 25, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
An enlightened Governor John Motley Morehead furnished his newly expanded Blandwood in antebellum North Carolina, at the time when Classical taste still reigned supreme and warring factions of Romanticism and Industrialization were reshaping American culture. Driven by a passion for culture and progress, Morehead’s choices for his mansion were guided by its eminent national architect Alexander Jackson Davis. Come visit 10 highlights—furniture and art– of the Morehead Collection at Blandwood. Tour will be led by Judith Z. Cushman Hammer, independent scholar and decorative arts researcher for Blandwood.
Admission to this special tour of Blandwood is $25 per person. Tour begins at 5:00pm and includes wine and finger sandwiches at 6:00 in Blandwood…in advance of Robert Leath’s presentation on Quaker Cabinetmakers at 6:30 in the nearby Blandwood Carriage House. For quality of this tour experience, attendance is limited to 14 participants.
