Urban Archaeology: Proximity Printworks Tour

Proximity Print Works was built to allow the Proximity Manufacturing Company to print designs onto their fabrics, rather than to ship them off for finishing to other concerns. Constructed in stages in the 1910s and 1920s, the facility contains a variety of cavernous spaces and incorporates a variety of materials that serve as a contrast with nearby Revolution Mill. The structure is currently vacant, and its walls have been used as a canvass for grafitti artists!

Due to the deteriorated condition of this space, the tour will be limited to 35 participants on a first call, first serve basis. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, this tour covers some rough terrain both inside and out!

Directions:  Go to the intersection of Yanceyville Street and Textile Drive (this is between West Cornwallis and East Bessemer on Yanceyville), turn onto Textile, go to 2nd intersection and turn left onto Fairview.  Go to 2nd intersection and turn right onto 9th Street.  Follow 9th Street to the end, bear left at the guard rail, at the end of 9th go through the gate and parking will be straight ahead on the right.

Don’t forget to wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight.
