Tour of Historic Homes Patron’s Package: Loewenstein Residence
April 13, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join us for an evening in one of North Carolina’s most exception Mid-Century Modern homes. This reception is one of a trio of events are available to Patron’s Package ticket holders. In addition to the three events, the Package also includes access to all five homes on the tour on May 21-22, 2016. The other two events of the trio are the McAlister Residence on the evening of May 19, and Sunday Brunch at the Hartmann Residence on May 22.
Architect Edward Loewenstein constructed his home for he and his wife Frances in 1954. Iconic features of the house include slanted windows in the primary public spaces, a fireplace that vents smoke underground through ducts to an outside chimney, native Carolina fieldstone walls, and clerestory windows. Private living spaces, including bedrooms, are in a private wing and feature a pragmatic use of space utilizing built-in furnishings. Utilitarian spaces such as the kitchen are located away from private spaces, yet convenient to deliveries and services. The house is oriented to take advantage of exterior views of woodlands and a swimming pool. The large lot on which the house sits has been carefully screened, and enhanced by pieces of art acquired by current owners Jane and Richard Levy. Jane is the daughter of the first occupants/builders.
Patron’s Package tickets may be purchased for $150 through Preservation Greensboro’s offices. Each pass includes three events as well as general tour admission.
