In addition to the three events, the Package also includes access to all five homes on the tour on May 21-22, 2016. The other two events of the trio have been held.
In 1919, New York architect Charles Hartmann came to Greensboro to design the O.Henry Hotel on North Elm Street. Upon meeting Greensboro businessmen, Hartmann was offered the job of designing the corporate tower for Jefferson Standard Insurance if he’d move to Greensboro and open a practice. Hartmann accepted the offer and spent the rest of his life in Greensboro designing notable buildings throughout North Carolina.
Hartmann selected this unusual corner lot as the site for the home he shared with his wife Alice in 1923.The charming house features an Arts and Crafts-theme with unusual details including a linear floor plan, stucco covered second floor walls, and shed wall-dormers that punctuate the eavesline. The home has recently been restored with an upgraded to the kitchen and bathrooms, a handsome new paint scheme, and reinstatement of the wood shingle roof.
Patron’s Package tickets may be purchased for $150 through Preservation Greensboro’s offices. Each pass includes three events as well as general tour admission.
