Restore Explore Connect: From Grave Markers to Unmarked Graves – Archaeological Insights of Historic Cemeteries

Preservation Greensboro is planning an exciting Lecture Series in early 2017 that will focus on Architecture, the Decorative Arts, and History in the Gate City and Guilford County. The series will take place week nights, and will be presented by scholars and experts who have studied the unique facets of our history that makes our community a remarkable place to live.

Shawn Patch is Principal Investigator, Archaeologist, and Remote Sensing Specialist, with New South Associates, a cultural resources consulting firm. Shawn will discuss archaeological insights on various historic cemeteries in North Carolina and beyond. This presentation includes examples using ground-penetrating radar to identify unmarked graves and better define cemetery boundaries, as well as data from various marker inventories. The perfect session for those who love our country cemeteries, Maplewood, Union, Green Hill, Buffalo, and so many other of our history burial grounds. 1.5 hours.
