What Is Architectural Salvage?

The Architectural Salvage of Greensboro (ASG) retail showroom contains fascinating merchandise including vintage claw foot tubs, old sinks, brass hardware, doors, windows, shutters, pressed metal ceilings, hardwood flooring, columns, stair railings, bath and sink hardware, chandeliers, and wall light fixtures recycled from historic homes and buildings throughout North Carolina’s Piedmont.

Nationally Recognized

Cited in Preservation magazine and The Chronicle of Philanthropy as a national model for innovative programming, ASG has contributed to historic preservation initiates throughout North Carolina as a source for “Old House Parts.”

In salvaging homes slated for renovation or demolition, ASG has orchestrated hundreds of volunteer hours annually and saved more than 20 tons of vintage materials from city landfills each year. This saves the community in terms of disposal costs and extends the lifespan of existing architectural elements that are reinvested into homes and structures through community preservation efforts.

Today, ASG serves as a resource for builders, preservationists, designers, architects, and people who love cool things across the country.

ABOUT US >

There are few places that evoke such a diverse sense of American history as Greensboro. The cultural center of the Society of Friends in the South gave birth to such notable personalities as the resilient First Lady Dolley Madison, the enigmatic writer O. Henry, and the fearless Greensboro Four. Greensboro was also a stage for the American Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the Civil Rights Movement. However, Greensboro’s historical legacy is not limited solely to personalities and pivot points. The city has long been home to a large and vibrant African American population, Southern Industrialists, and numerous institutions of higher learning have graced the city with a broad selection of architectural history, ranging from Federal and Greek Revival designs to Mid-Century Modern works, to name a few. Historic preservation is thriving our city center and surrounding neighborhoods and historic districts, as well as representation by treasured landmarks throughout the city.
